QUIT SMOKING!

I started smoking since I was 15 even if I knew it was wrong. No one in my family smokes, and just because of that, my dad decided to let me live in an apartment when I was 16 and technically, I am free to do whatever the hell I want. I think this is also why I learned to do so many stuffs on my way (minus the household chores of course!)

A pack of Marlboro lights/menthol is one of the most important thing I need to have in my purse. It’s been one of my best companions in most late nights doing home works, course works, or being swamped with office works. My office table is filled with all the paper works to finish before the due date, my laptop, a cup or sometimes 5 cups of black coffee.. No sugar, no milk and a pack of cigarette which will help me get through the night. And to so many times, just because it is addictive.

When one starts smoking, almost 75% of the smokers lose count of the sticks they take in everyday. Honestly, I can finish nearly a pack by the end of the day. And not just that, I drink a lot too! The 3 J’s are my favorite: Johnny Walker, Jack Daniels and Jim Beam. If any of those comes up, I can probably consume a pack and a half, or until I’m totally wasted.

“Trying” to quit smoking wasn’t the best idea after all. I have been warned regarding my health so many times and in many circumstances but I still don’t get it right. Many of the researches I have made didn’t help me get through it. I just relapsed, and relapsed again. Probably 5 attempts of quit smoking. Okay, now, my life probably sucked! I’m a smoker with no control at all! Until one day, I was called to have a some health issues and that is when I really, really have to stop. Guess what I did? I smoked a pack of cigarette in one day and made a promise that this will be the last. I know that’s pretty messed up and I thought I’d relapse again.. But the last thing I know I should have done before is “Determination” and “Motivation”. In many cases, this two are the words that fits right to make you accomplish something.

Screw all the researches I’ve made. I am determined and motivated to quit smoking! That’s what I said to myself. I broke the ashtrays, threw my lighter away then I went to the convenient store next to my office and bought a packs of mint flavored bubble-gums and Mentos. Every time I think about the cigarette, I pop a bubble-gum and chew it until the taste lasts. And I got through it for the rest of the week. That was a tough one!! That’s all I did. Those candies worked! Hmm, sometimes chocolates.

So if you ask me what how I was able to stop my cigarette addiction? It’s not really the candies. It’s the determination and motivation to achieve one task, it is one good big step to achieve and try all the alternatives out there! Who knows? You might be successful too!

And oh, every time I see a person smoking, I wouldn’t mind. I’m clean and I’m doing just fine! :-)

First, think of the money you’re spending on those cigarettes that don’t actually give you any benefits later. I know it feels good, it makes you calm. It’s like some personal drug you wouldn’t mind getting caught by the police, or whatever. But it feels good right? Yeah, try to say that to yourself later on when you finally hear from your doctor that you’re sick, then maybe it’s too late to stop? Trust me, I wouldn’t want to hear that from you.

When I stopped smoking? June 15, 2009. 8 months now.. Damn yes, I was able to do it and I believe you can to!

Determination and Motivation - it helps, silly! ;-)
